COMPANY HISTORY

Smiling Star was founded by Mr Jimmy New, PBM in 2001 as a neighbourhood playgroup provider in the Residents’ Committee at Block 32 Marsiling Drive. Within two years, Smiling Star expanded to 3 more centres in the Woodlands estate, along with the help of our preschool supervisor, Mdm Margaret Lim.

 

In 2002, Smiling Star Phonics programme was created at various centres, namely at - Block 32 Marsiling Drive, Block 178 Woodlands St 13 and Blk 363 Woodlands Ave 5, along with the help of our phonics supervisor Mdm Rajeswary D/O Ramasamy. This programme aims to enhance the learning of and cultivate the love for English language for young children.

 

In 2004, Smiling Star started our very first Childcare at Bukit Panjang Community Club at 8 Pending Road.

 

In 2005, Smiling Star started our first Kindergarten at Block 303 Woodlands St 31. This allowed our students from the Playgroup programme to continue their pre-school education. In the same year, Smiling Star created Chinese programmes, namely the Speedy Chinese Characters Recognition (SCCR), Speedy Chinese Improvement Programme (SCIP), as well as Han Yu Pin Yin respectively due to the uprising emphasis of Chinese language in Singapore. These programmes are designed to build the foundation of Chinese Language for our children in a fun learning way.

 

In 2007, Smiling Star Started our first overseas Kindergarten expansion to China, Shanghai Pudong as Smiling Star International Kindergarten.

 

In 2010, Smiling Star started our first Student Care at Block 107 Gangsa Rd in January to cater to the needs of students going to Primary School where they can have after school care service.

 

In 2012, Smiling Star bought over a freehold premise at 30 Shaw Rd, which is now our current headquarters. Smiling Star has also achieved Asia Pacific Brands Award in the same year.

 

 

In 2013, Smiling Star was awarded the Singapore Brand Award. In the same year, our director, Mr Jimmy New, PBM also received a 20 Year Community Long Service Award. 

 

In 2014, Smiling Star launched our TV advertisement on Channel 5. Smiling Star also trademarked the company logo in August 2014 as well as started our first Franchise scheme in September 2014.

In addition, Smiling Star was featured on the TV news for opportunity fund application for needy children. On top of that, Smiling Star has also grew a milestone with the implementation of preschool and learning centre management system (PLCMS) which aims to provide better communication to parents and to showcase the children’s e-portfolio in the month of August.

 

 

In 2015, Smiling Star managed to franchise to 3 Franchisee, Zhou Ming Pte Ltd, TBSS-Smiling Star and Emanuel Smiling Star with our franchise scheme.

 

In 2016, Smiling Star was awarded Top Business Achiever Award. In the same year, Smiling Star acquired Brightsun Child Care Centre and brand it as Smiling Star Four Seasons Pte Ltd.

 

​In 2017, Smiling Star started Smiling Star Edu Hub at a 3 storey high, 10,000 square feet building which houses our third Childcare Centre and first Infant Care Centre. Smiling Star also partnered with Neeuro to provide brain training programme to our children as well as to other preschools in Singapore.

 

As of today, Smiling Star have about 30 learning locations in Singapore that offers the various educational programmes to suit the different needs of children.
